PT Kaltim Prima Coal (“KPC”) is one of the Company’s subsidiaries and owns a mining concession area of 90,938 hectares. In 2009; from two areas of mining; Sangatta and Bengalon; KPC’s coal production volume was 40.3 million tonnes. This volume increased by 2.8 million tonnes in comparison to 2008, which was 37.5 million tonnes.KPC continues its Performance Improvement Program which is run by a full time inhouse team of trained professionals. Through this program KPC has been able to reduce the cost of coal production to USD 30.69 per tonne. KPC continues its exploration program to provide long term availability of coal to meet its planned production requirements. KPC has an inferred resource of 7,179 million tonnes – which is a 62.31 % increase over 2008 the reserve is 1,548 million tonnes. Similar to other coal mining companies in general, the declining market price has not adversly effected KPC’s performance. Due to the capacity of its mines to produce high-calorie coals, KPC was able to sell at US$ 63.17 per tonne.
